To vouchsafe all the properties of PULEVA Calcium, PULEVA Biotech has carried out a study published in one of the most prestigious medical magazines in the world “The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition” in which the fraction of calcium absorbed from three milk drinks is compared: basic semi-skimmed, PULEVA Calcium semi-skimmed and milk enriched with calcium.  And the conclusions prove us right:

- The calcium we include to enrich PULEVA Calcio attaches and is absorbed better and in greater quantities than with standard milks and other calcium-enriched milks.

- With absorption being greater, a smaller quantity of PULEVA Calcium milk is needed to cover nutritional requirements, surpassing both enriched and standard milks.

And the fact is that PULEVA Calcium, the first milk to be enriched with calcium and vitamin D, contains 35% more calcium than basic milks, becoming the best ally for people of all ages in their quest to fulfill nutritional requirements. To assist absorption even more we have included vitamin D in PULEVA Calcium which, amongst other benefits, intervenes and facilitates the absorption of calcium, an element so basic for the mineralisation of the bones and teeth during growth and for its maintenance in adults.

Milk is our main source of calcium

When we think of calcium, we think above all of the bones.  If the organism, which consumes calcium every day, does not obtain it from the diet, it will extract it from the only other source it has: the bones, which means that these will become weak and brittle. To avoid this happening there is, for each age group, a series of recommendations for daily consumption, and although these daily doses also depend on the physiological condition and the needs of each individual, the figues are as follows:

PULEVA Calcium, the first Spanish milk enriched with calcium, helps to fulfil these nutritional requirements as it provides 400 mg of calcium. With just two glasses of milk an adult would have covered his or her calcium requirements and would have ensured that their bones were stronger and more consistent.

Our body's need for calcium goes further as this mineral is so necessary and basic that funtions as important as the transmission of nervous impulses, muscular contraction, coagulation of the blood or the correct functioning of the heart also depend upon it. A low consumption of calcium can produce osteoporosis, a loss of mandibular bone  and other problems such as hypertension. It has been proven that after the age of 35, the body makes less new bone to replace bone loss so the older we get the lower becomes our bone mass and the greater our need to provide our body with calcium.
