MORE THAN 500 CHILDREN TAKE PART IN THE PULEVA MAX CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS OF SPAIN

Spain, the country where the largest number of chess tournaments are held throughout the year, occupies 10th position in the world rankings.

Jaén, 24th of June of 2010.Chess, one of the most popular board games in the world, is considered to be a mental sport, as it is very useful as a means of intellectual development. Located in 10th position in the world rankings, Spain has over 25.000 affiliated players, amongst whom are many promising youngsters. In addition, it is the country that holds the most chess tournaments in the world, and an example of this is the forthcoming PULEVA MAX Chess Championships of Spain which are just about to start, with the backing of PULEVA.

The tournament will take place from the 25th of June to the 18th of July, in Linares (Jaén). This edition, organised by the Grupo RL Hotel Aníbal, enjoys the collaboration of the Andalusian and Spanish Chess Federations. In addition, it is sponsored by the Town Council of Linares, Hotel RL Aníbal and PULEVA. More than 500 children from across Spain will take part in the tournament, divided into different categories: under-8’s, under-10’s, under-12’s and under-14’s.

“Chess is an Olympic sport which is gaining ground amongst youngsters, and Spain occupies a privileged position within the world rankings, with promising players such as Iván Salgado, Junior World Runner-Up or Alexei Shirov, 10th in the world”, says Javier Ochoa de Echagüen, President of the Spanish Chess Federation.

For the purposes of encouraging a healthy and balanced diet, Puleva will provide the participants with a healthy breakfast, consisting of bread, fruit, oil and a 200ml brick of PULEVA Max Cereals with Omega 3 and DHA, an enriched milk drink which improves parameters relating to cognitive development in children between the ages of 3 and 14. By so doing, PULEVA seeks to create awareness of the importance of a healthy diet amongst the 500 children participating. In addition, during the tournament, PULEVA Max Chocolate milkshakes (200ml) will be handed out daily to those attending.

Since its very beginnings, one of the principal objectives of PULEVA has been to promote the development of healthy habits and behaviours from the very first years of life, as well as encouraging the regular practice of sports. PULEVA promotes intellectual development amongst the youngest, through a healthy and balanced diet.
